Fullness of Emptiness

Venue : SOLUNA FINE ART, 52 Sai St. Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

Date : 2025.10.09 - 10.18

Artists : Woosun Cheon

Metal artist Woosun Cheon draws inspiration from the rich tradition of Korean ceramics, reimagining the shapes of bowls and vessels through the medium of metal and ottchil (lacquer). In his work Open Vase, each wire is meticulously welded together, with the creation process approached as a three-dimensional sketch. CHEON divides forms into smaller units, where metal wires become lines that converge to form surfaces, gradually shaping the overall piece.

His technique ensures that the sculpture flows seamlessly from every angle. Regardless of the viewer’s perspective, there is a constant sense of fluidity and movement. This approach brings the sculpture to life, offering a dynamic experience that encourages engagement from multiple viewpoints. Open Vase also embodies the philosophy that to fill, one must first empty, prompting viewers to contemplate the fundamental relationship between presence and absence.
